However you choose to fundraise, a hassle free way of collecting donations or sponsorship is to create an online fundraising page with Virgin Money Giving.
Setting up a personal fundraising page is quick and simple and means you don’t have to worry about collecting cash or cheques. Every time your friends and family donate via the secure payment facility, the funds come straight to Fresh Start – new beginnings. Online giving also means we can claim gift aid for all supporters who are UK tax payers, making each gift worth an extra 25%.
To set up your page go to: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/giving/
You will need to select Fresh Start – new beginnings as the charity of your choice.
Fill in your details
You will need to fill in your details and select what type of event you’re taking part in – is it an organised event, e.g. the London Marathon, are you collecting donations in lieu of gifts for your birthday, wedding or anniversary, or taking part in a personal challenge – this could be anything from a sponsored head shave, bike ride, walk or run.
Personalise your page
Make sure you personalise your page by adding information about what you’re doing and why, and include a photo. Try to update your page if you have time – for example, if you’re training for a run, let your friends and family know how the training is going and add some photos as you go along.
Set a target
It’s a good idea to set a target as this will encourage more people to donate. Most sites also let you add offline donations to your page, so if you’re also collecting funds through an event you’re organising or via sponsor forms, you can add this information so you can see how you’re doing overall.
Share, share, share!
Once you’ve set up your page, you’ll need to make a note of the link so you can email it to your friends, family and colleagues so they can start donating! Sharing your page on Facebook and Twitter is a great way to get the word out too – ask your friends and family to share the link on their pages to spread the word even further.
