Local Businesses Tackle Nuclear Race to Raise £4,006 for Children’s Charity

11th July 2017

Sixteen brave (or crazy) members of Navigation Suites and Focus Integrated staff took part in a Nuclear Rush Race to raise much-needed funds for Fresh Start – new beginnings (FSNB), a charity who provides a therapeutic service for children and young people who have reported being sexually abused.

On Saturday 13th May 2017, the team were the first out to tackle the 7km ultra-gritty, properly muddy, obstacle-loaded course, at the Secret Bunker Estate, Essex. On Wednesday 5th July, a cheque giving ceremony took place for the charity to officially receive their donations. Everyone who took part in the race was present at the ceremony, looking a lot less muddy and bruised compared to the wet weekend in May when the race took place.

The team hoped to raise £2,000 for Fresh Start – new beginnings, and by the time the race took place they had raised over double their expected target. Through their JustGiving page the team raised £4,006 and received £500 of further donations direct to the charity.

Focus and their sister agency Navigation who are based in Kelvedon and Witham, have supported Fresh Start – new beginnings for several years, so much so their Managing Director James Mercer is a trustee for the charity and their staff are always thinking of innovative fundraising ideas.

James Mercer, Managing Director of Focus and Navigation, says: “I’m so proud of the team involved for their tremendous fundraising efforts for such a worthwhile local charity. The race was the hardest thing that many of us had done and seemed the appropriate challenge to help raise lots of money.”

Fresh Start – new beginnings works through Suffolk, Norfolk and North Essex and was set up to provide a therapeutic service for children and young people who have reported being sexually abused. Focus and Navigation have been lucky enough to fundraise for the charity for several years, but this is the largest amount they have raised so far.

Diana Porter, Founder and CEO of Fresh Start – new beginnings, said “We are thrilled with the amount raised, it will make such a difference to how much help we can give to the children and young people we work with. Those brave people at Focus and Navigation are just amazing, I cannot thank them enough.”
